Dr. Paul Dickinson

Low Brass Artist and Educator

Dr. Paul Dickinson is a performer, educator, and arranger based in the Southeast. A native of Darlington, South Carolina, he currently teaches tuba and euphonium at Kennesaw State University and Reinhardt University in the Atlanta area. Since 2019, he has served as Brass Instructor for the Georgia Governor’s Honors Program and has been Music Department Chair since 2022.

As a performer, Dr. Dickinson has earned placements in national and international competitions and has been invited to the live rounds of competitive military band euphonium auditions. He currently performs with the Georgia Brass Band, where he also serves on the organization’s Board of Directors, and has presented solo recitals on tuba and euphonium across the United States. Additional performance credits include appearances with the Poinsett Wind Symphony, the Gwinnett Symphony Wind Orchestra, and other wind ensembles, brass bands, and chamber groups nationwide.

In addition to his teaching and performance activities, Dr. Dickinson is an active arranger for large and small brass ensembles and works regularly as a clinician and adjudicator for middle and high school programs throughout the Southeast. His students earn placements in state-level honor ensembles, receive high ratings at Solo and Ensemble festivals, secure contracts with top-twelve drum corps, and receive scholarships to competitive collegiate studios.

At the collegiate level, Dr. Dickinson’s students are sought after as educators in middle and high school programs throughout the metro-Atlanta area. Members of the Kennesaw State tuba/euphonium studio have advanced to final rounds of solo and ensemble competitions at regional conferences and earned placements in nationally recognized orchestral music festivals. Several of his studio’s graduates have won positions with major military bands and professional orchestras. His tuba/euphonium ensembles have been invited to perform at regional, national, and international conferences, including the International Tuba Euphonium Conference (2019), the U.S. Army Band’s Tuba–Euphonium Workshop (2024), and multiple conferences in the Southeast Regional Tuba Euphonium Conference (SERTEC) series. In 2022, Dr. Dickinson hosted SERTEC at Kennesaw State University, overseeing a three-day event with 55 guest artists and more than 300 participants.

Dr. Dickinson holds degrees from Furman University (B.M.E., 2011), Georgia State University (M.M., 2013), and Florida State University (D.M., 2016). His primary teachers include Dr. Mark Britt, Fred Boyd, Mike Taylor, Eric Bubacz, Dr. Adam Frey, and Paul Ebbers.
